Portfolios > SERIES 1: RITUALS AND RELIQUARIES

3/4 view showing that it is a five-sided construction.
For this sculpture I used a vintage photogravure from my collection, which is a photo engraved on zinc metal mounted on a wood block and used for newspaper photos. Miss Vicky Vickers was the name the typographer wrote on the back of her type block. This style of photogravure was used in newspaper advertisements for a nightclub or theater act in the 1940's or early 1950's where Miss Vickers performed.
I used the blue-purple ink color residue on the photo block as the color palette for the reliquary. Miss Vickers is presented elegantly in the photo and I followed that theme in choosing the perfume bottle and a feathered motif for the overall design.

A French D'Orsay crystal perfume bottle with glass pearl beads, birch rods and basswood strips, paper, acrylic paint and acrylic media on archival wood support.
