SERIES 1: RITUALS AND RELIQUARIES
This sculpture began with the 1940's-50's photogravure, an etched metal on wood newspaper printing block. It was used in advertising for performances at a nightclub or theater. It has been displayed in my studio for years, as was the Sofskin Creme container, which is the same vintage.
Misty Night was a stage name for a burlesque showgirl who performed live onstage in the vaudeville style in Chicago. Her name was written on the back of the type block in pencil.
Other materials: birch dowels; basswood sheet and strips; paper; and acrylic paint on museum archival hardboard and wood support.
Collection: Beate Minkovski
