SERIES 1: RITUALS AND RELIQUARIES
3/4 view. This sculpture began with a vintage zinc on wood photogravure, a photo newspaper printing block from the 1940's-50's. This was used to produce newpaper ads for live burlesque and "girly" shows. Dolly Dawn's name was written on the back of this type in pencil. I love these artifacts used to advertise the theaters in Chicago's gritty South Loop at the time.
The Hyglo nail polish paste (pink) is from the same era. Every self-respecting showgirl had to have substantial make-up used in the Hollywood manner.
