Portfolios > SERIES 1: RITUALS AND RELIQUARIES

I collected one of these boxes used for watch balance screws 40 some years ago. I love the little bottles, some still had screws inside. Years later I was on one of my usual antique store journeys and was amazed to find another one, only it was missing some bottles. So I now had the pair for my balance screw reliquary. The vintage (1939) boxes of balance screws were used to repair Swiss movement bracelet wrist watches.

The composition of this piece is a play on the brand name, Just Rite Balance Screws. These watch parts were balancing screws made by Just Rite. So I mounted the boxes as though they were on a balance beam scale.

Materials: birch dowels, basswood strips, acrylic paint on archival wood support.
