Portfolios > SERIES 1: RITUALS AND RELIQUARIES

3/4 View: Another collected item from my travels.
I made a Mayan-style temple structure as an appropriate housing for the clay figure within:
Jaina-style mold-made ceramic figure fragment, 700 - 900 A.D. Late Classic Period, Maya Culture, Jaina Island, Campeche, Mexico. This is an authentic fragment and not a reproduction.
This figure is likely a priest or dignitary given the raised hand and finger gesture. Design on temple front: stylized Mayan glyph representing the moon.

Materials: Jaina fragment; Birch dowels; Basswood sheets and strips; acrylic paint and media on a museum archival wood support.
